The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has announced the suspension of two pastors following allegations of homosexuality.
The suspension was confirmed in a memo dated October 28, 2024, signed by Sunday Akande, the national overseer of RCCG. The memo, directed to the special assistant to the general overseer of administration, mandates a thorough investigation into the allegations involving the two pastors.
According to the memo, RCCG’s doctrine strictly prohibits any acts of homosexuality, citing specific biblical passages to reinforce the church’s stance.
Akande stated that the pastors in question have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation. He assured that the probe would be conducted within two weeks and handled with confidentiality, emphasizing respect for all parties involved.
The memo reads: “This memo serves to inform you of serious allegations of homosexuality against [the individuals involved]. In alignment with our commitment to uphold biblical teachings, we are treating these allegations with the utmost seriousness they deserve.”
Referencing Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, the church underscored its adherence to biblical doctrine against homosexuality.
The memo further instructed, “In light of these allegations, you are now directed to conduct a thorough investigation. Those involved are to be temporarily relieved of all responsibilities within RCCG until the investigation concludes, which is expected within two weeks.”
A senior RCCG official confirmed the authenticity of the memo, adding, “The case has been ongoing… so sad.”
This suspension and the church’s firm stance reflect RCCG’s adherence to its values and commitment to biblical teachings.
