The lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has commended the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Odunwa, for his medical outreach intervention in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Speaking during the weekend at the flag-off held at Ogah’s hometown in Item Amagu, his wife, Chief Mrs. Mary Ogah, who represented the lawmaker, praised Speaker Odunwa for prioritizing the health of rural communities. She said:

“Today, he said this ward is one of the wards where he received the highest votes, and for that reason, he wants to start a health facility here in Item Amagu. Are we not lucky? Item Amagu is the home of Chinedu Ogah, member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Constituency, and the Speaker of Ebonyi State did not choose any other ward but decided to choose the ward of Comrade Chinedu Ogah, his own hometown.”

“Our dear Speaker, we want to say we love you and we want to have you again as Speaker in the next eight years. We thank all the health teams who have come today to give health talks and free medical treatment to our people.”

The Speaker, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Theophilus Igwe, highlighted his deep connection to the ward:

“This is Ndegu Amagu Ward Two. Mr. Speaker has a very special interest in this ward because during the 2023 election, out of the 12,798 votes Mr. Speaker got, this ward alone gave him 4,965 votes. So Mr. Speaker is always very happy with this ward because they are unique and very special to him.”

Igwe added that the outreach was to complement the health programs of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the pet project of the First Lady, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, through BERWO.

“Mr. Speaker decided to bring free medical care to thank them for their overwhelming support and to assist those who may not afford medical services. He believes that health is wealth. His plan is to extend this medical outreach to all wards in Ikwo, starting with his primary constituency,” he said.

The medical team, led by Aloh Ngozi Aka Ng Black from the State Ministry of Health, said the outreach focused on immunizations, HPV vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 to prevent cervical cancer, free consultations, and laboratory screenings for TB, malaria, and HIV.

“Today we attended to over 111 malaria patients, screened many for HIV, BP, sugar levels, and immunized children who had missed vaccines,” she said, commending the Speaker for his intervention.

Beneficiaries, including the Ward Woman Leader, Mrs. Christina Nwonu, and Mrs. Amudo Onele, expressed deep appreciation to the Speaker, praying for more initiatives that directly touch the lives of the people.
