Legacy FM boss, Ogba denies govt interference in Chikwere’s suspension

The founder and president of Legacy FM radio and television, Senator Obinna Ogba has publicly denied that the Ebonyi State government played any role in the recent suspension of his acting general manager, Godfrey Chikwere Odoh, known as “Baby Mouth.”

In a press briefing in Abakaliki, Senator Ogba stated that the suspension was an internal matter, citing Odoh’s repeated failure to adhere to the company’s code of conduct. “I have warn him before now, first one, second one,” Ogba said, adding that he “couldn’t stomach it” any longer and asked Odoh to “go and rest for a while.”

Ogba expressed his strong disapproval of public speculation linking the suspension to government pressure. “I felt so bad when I started hearing governor directed for the suspension or government influence it. I took exception to that and I felt it is an insult to my person,” he stated, noting that he established Legacy FM before the current governor, Francis Nwifuru, came into office.

However, public perception remains divided. Reports circulating suggest that Odoh’s suspension was a direct result of his public criticism of the governor.

This assumption stems from a recent Facebook post by Odoh where he criticized the governor’s administration, claiming that public perception was “low and dwindling daily.” The station’s management announced Odoh’s suspension shortly after this post, citing “unruly behavior and disobedience to the code of conduct.”

The situation was further complicated by a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, who responded to Odoh’s criticisms by accusing him of “ungratefulness.”

Uzor claimed that Legacy FM had been “thriving only on government support” and that Odoh had used the station’s airtime to “attack and run down the government.”
