Vice President Kashim Shettima has given his endorsement to the adoption of a non-kinetic method to address the issue of insecurity in the South East region of the country. This approach is seen as a complement to existing measures already being implemented by security agencies.
The Vice President expressed this viewpoint during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa by a delegation led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. The group, representing the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), presented a proposal and invited the Vice President to the project’s inauguration, which focuses on a non-kinetic solution to the security challenges in the South East.
VP Shettima emphasized the advantages of employing a non-kinetic strategy, asserting that it could prevent the region from descending into a protracted conflict. He stated, ‘Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition, a non-kinetic solution to the crisis in the South East must be explored and deployed. The most atrocious of wars are at the end of the day sorted out on the negotiation table. It is how you build bridges that will determine how far you go as a people and society. We have to reach out to the youths; we have to empower them. Once we empower them, the crisis, the agitation, and insecurity will vanish.’
In his earlier remarks, Benjamin Kalu underscored the importance of a non-kinetic strategy in addressing the security concerns of the region.”
