Airport Standstill: NLC And TUC Protest Leave Passengers Stranded in Abuja

Passengers traveling through Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja are currently facing a travel standstill due to a protest organized by labor unions on Thursday morning.

The demonstrators, who belong to the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, have blockaded the airport entrance. This protest follows the recent alleged attack on the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, in Imo State.

Vehicles transporting air travelers to the airport are stranded outside, and passengers are left in limbo. One passenger, Siraj Abubakar, expressed frustration, stating that protesters prevented vehicles from entering the airport around 8:30 am on Thursday. “They said they are protesting against the maltreatment of the NLC chairman in Imo State, and I wonder how that affects us here in Abuja,” Abubakar remarked.

As of now, officials from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport have not responded to calls and messages regarding the situation.

Reports from The SPRINGNEWS reports that aviation unions nationwide have collectively announced the suspension of all flights to Owerri, Imo State, from every airport in Nigeria. Additionally, the unions have declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State persona non grata in all airports.
