Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) and Ezza North Local Government Area, Chief Ogodoali Moses, on Monday decried workers’ poor attitude toward work in Ebonyi State, warning that carelessness at work can lead to personal and societal poverty.

Chief Ogodoali made this known in his office during a courtesy visit by the National Association of Women Journalists, Ebonyi State Chapter.

He called on journalists to use the media to advocate against poor work ethics in the civil service, emphasizing that every job, no matter how humble, is crucial for providing food and should be carried out to the best of one’s abilities.

He lamented on the nonchalant attitude of civil servants towards work, urging them to adopt a more diligent approach to their duties.

Chief Ogodoali stressed the significance of hard work in achieving happiness, cautioning against overworking and emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

He stated, “Every Civil Servant is supposed to wake up by 6 am, take your bath, groom yourself, and be ready to start your day by 7:30 am. Our people are not taking their work seriously, especially in Ebonyi, and it is not good because once you are careless over your work as a staff of any Ministry, you must be careless over your personal work.”

“And that will attract poverty; the Bible said little sleep and little rest will lead to poverty. Whatever you are doing and you are not being appreciated, then you are not working. Don’t feel shy to tell me areas I’m not doing well,” he said.

Ogodoali expressed enthusiasm in working with the women journalists in the State, stating that his office will partner with the association to address challenges facing the society especially in the educational sector.

He admonished journalists to shun fake news and embrace balanced and objective reportage through investigative journalism.

Earlier, the state NAWOJ chairperson, Comrade Nkechiyere Oginyi, commended the ALGON chairman for his achievements within his one year in office. She called on the council boss to ensure that women are effectively represented at the local government and state levels.
