APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot by NNPP Government in Kano to Misappropriate Over N8 Billion Local Council Funds

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over the Governor Abba Yusuf-led New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) government in Kano, accusing it of planning to misappropriate local government funds exceeding N8 billion.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Kano APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas expressed apprehension over the political uncertainty surrounding the Supreme Court judgment on the disputed gubernatorial election in the state, suggesting that it might be driving the NNPP government to take control of local government functions.

Abbas revealed, ‘The APC in Kano has obtained a copy of the letter of conveyance of approval from the Ministry for Local Government, directing the 44 local councils to release the sum of N101,655,000.38 million and N3,607,370,858.00 million each for the construction of Dan’Agundi and Tal’udu Interchanges, respectively.’

He emphasized that the approval letter, allegedly sent to all council chairmen and copied to the Auditor-General of the state, local government audit, and all zonal inspectors of the Ministry, instructed the local councils to contribute to the specified projects.

Abbas issued a warning to both local government councils and commercial banks, urging them to halt the process of clearing the release of funds ‘at this critical period of the NNPP’s unreliability.’

The Kano APC chairman pointed out that on the preceding Friday, the Kano State Government took action by removing and appointing new Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) and treasurers to eliminate potential obstacles in its alleged plot to embezzle local council funds.”
