The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address lingering issues in the polytechnic sector or face a nationwide strike.
ASUP President, Shammah Kpanja, told journalists in Abuja that key demands include establishing a National Polytechnics Commission, ending discrimination against Higher National Diploma holders, paying outstanding allowances, implementing the 25–35% salary review, and releasing the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment fund.
He criticised the use of external consultants for accreditation, decried poor funding, and lamented that many state-owned polytechnics are yet to implement the N70,000 minimum wage.
The union warned it would withdraw services across public polytechnics and monotechnics if the issues remain unresolved.
