Benue APC Raises Concerns Over Alleged Plot to Stage Protests Against Tinubu and Other Leaders

The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged the discovery of a plot orchestrated by agents of the state government to sponsor a protest against President Bola Tinubu. The alleged motive behind the protest is to obstruct the cessation of funds to local governments with undemocratic structures in Benue and other states across the country.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Daniel Ihomun, revealed these claims in an official statement. Ihomun expounded on the situation, stating, “The protest is also alleged to be targeting the Senate President, Distinguish Sen Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the Senate plenary that passed the resolution and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Dr George Akume, the Leader of APC in Benue, who has become a victim of malicious accusations in the State by mischief makers.”

Describing the alleged plot as a serious threat to the unity of both the state and the party, Ihomun pointed out that the initial step taken by the organizers was the call for the resignation of the Party Chairman in the State, Comrade Austin Agada, without providing any genuine reason.

While acknowledging the organizers’ right to express themselves, Ihomun emphasized the unacceptability of actions that would embarrass the President and his administration. He stressed, “Much as the organizers are free to express themselves, taking steps that would embarrass Mr. President and his administration is unacceptable and must be halted.”

In response to these developments, the party urged the Inspector General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police to closely monitor the planned protest. Ihomun expressed concern that the protest might appear as a solidarity march but could harbor a sinister motive.

Furthermore, Ihomun called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to scrutinize the activities of elements within his government using his name for actions that could potentially lead to anarchy in the state. He urged security agencies in the state to remain vigilant in the face of these developments
