DUN Honors Umahi’s 62nd with Spirited Match

Abakaliki, Ebonyi State 

To commemorate the 62nd birthday of Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, the DUN Divine Foundation orchestrated a symbolic football match at the King David Estate Pitch in Abakaliki. The spirited contest, which ended in a 1-1 draw between the Orange and Blue teams, highlighted Umahi’s notable legacy of inclusive leadership and dedication to development.

The event drew a notable gathering of political leaders, supporters, and youth groups. Chief Austin Umahi, representing the celebrant, highlighted the match as a powerful symbol of unity, peace, and loyalty, emphasizing a “shared commitment to a vision.” Barr. Cletus Ofoke, Chairman of the Foundation, stated the match honored Umahi’s leadership while promoting youth engagement through sports and humanitarian acts.

The State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Prince Richard Idike, lauded Umahi as “a university of leadership,” urging leaders to utilize sports for talent discovery, community building, and economic development. Other dignitaries present included Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze, member representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency; Prince Ekumankama, Edda local government chairman; Prince Ejikeme Agbo and Francis Nwaze, former media aide to Umahi.

Darlington Okereke was named Man of the Match. The celebration culminated in a visit to the Nigeria Red Cross Motherless Babies’ Home, where gifts were donated, reflecting Umahi’s compassionate leadership.
