Ebonyi Assembly Urges State Govt to Rehabilitate Deplorable Road

The Ebonyi state house of assembly deliberated on the urgent need for the rehabilitation of a critical segment of the Ebonyi road, situated between Energy and Jonas Filling Stations along the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.

This resolution, deemed a Matter of Public Importance, was reached during the plenary session held on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, at the Legislative Complex on Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki.

Stressing the significance of the road, Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, representing Izzi West State Constituency, underscored its strategic importance, leading to the official residences of government officials.

He emphasized the escalating dangers posed by the deplorable condition of the road, likening it to a potential “Bermuda Triangle.”

The motion called for immediate action from relevant state ministries and agencies to avert the looming threat to lives and properties.

Hon. Abiri expressed gratitude to the State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his impactful developmental initiatives, lauding them as transformative for Ebonyi State.

Seconding the motion, Mr. Oluchukwu Ezeali Uke, representing Afikpo North East State Constituency, echoed the urgent need for attention to the road, emphasizing its minimal cost of repair and the potential to save lives.

In a decisive ruling, Speaker Chief Moses Ije Odunwa emphasized the necessity for immediate remedial measures to prevent further casualties.

He directed concerned state agencies, including the Ebonyi State Road Maintenance Agency (EBROMA), to initiate urgent rehabilitation efforts.

Following deliberations, the motion was unanimously adopted by the Assembly, signaling a collective commitment to addressing the pressing issue.
