Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru suspends 71 officials over absenteeism

Massive disciplinary action targets Commissioners, SSAs, SAs, and Permanent Secretaries for missing crucial government function

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed the immediate one-month working suspension, without salary, of 71 government functionaries.

The sweeping disciplinary action affects a significant portion of the state’s top brass, including 25 Hon. Commissioners, 14 Senior Special Assistants, 24 Special Assistants, and 8 Permanent Secretaries.

The governor’s directive stems from their collective failure to attend an important government function, the details of which were not immediately made public.

According to a Public Service Announcement issued by Dr. Monday Uzor, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the suspension takes immediate effect.

The statement further stipulates that all affected officers are expressly forbidden from signing any official document throughout the duration of their suspension.

Furthermore, Commissioners on the list are required to hand over their responsibilities to their respective Permanent Secretaries.

Among the prominent names on the suspension list are Commissioners such as Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, Prof. Leonard Uguru, Dr. Mathew Nwobashi, and Prof. Nwogo Obasi. Senior Special Assistants including Hon. Bassey Chukwu and Mrs. Rose Ofoke are also affected, alongside a long list of Special Assistants and Permanent Secretaries, signaling the Governor’s serious stance on official conduct.
