Ebonyi Lawmakers Advocates Plans to Accelerate Rural Development

The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government in Ebonyi State House of Assembly,Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam has enjoined Operators of the Local Government system in Ebonyi State to evolve strategic plans that would fast track grassroots development

The Committee Chairman, Hon Obinna Mbam hinted this at Isu on Thursday,when the House Committee on Local Government visited Onicha Local Government on Oversight Function.

He explained that the visit became necessary as the House needs to be abreast with happenings in the Local Government System especially how the Council is utilizing Public funds to execute projects that have direct impact on the people.

Hon Goodluck Mbam commended the Chairman of Onicha Local Government for the projects he was able to put in place within Some months of his administration and charged him to remain undistracted in his good works for his people.

Some of the members of the Committee who spoke including Hon Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga,, Hon Abiri Godwin , Hon Mrs Esther Agwu, Hon Victor Nwoke , Hon Barr Alloysius Nwodo,Hon Joseph Ununu and Hon Lucas Arinze. disclosed that their visit is aimed at strengthening the Local Government System to be more functional and enjoined Council Officials to always ensure that their financial transactions are in tandem with financial rules and regulations.

Earlier in a remark, the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Hon Chidiebere Uzor Agwu disclosed that his administration has executed so many meaningful projects which include; grading/Laterating of Roads in the Area; Installation of solar lights , Construction of Onofia and Azuakpuru bridges,rural electrification, sinking of boreholes, on- going building of 24 House for the councillors and and Indigent widows, payment of fifty thousand naira monthly stipend to all Town Union Executives in the Local Government empowerment of numerous youths and women of the Area; purchase of motor bikes and tricycles for the youths of the area.

Speaking on behalf of the members of OnichaLegislative Council,theDeputy Leader of the Council,Hon Raymond Nwafor described their Council Chairman, Hon Chidiebere Uzor Agwu as a pragmatic Leader who is committed to the development of the Council Area adding that Councilors , Supervisors, Stakeholders and the Staff of the Council are enjoying harmonious working relationship with him .
