The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy, and EBSIEC Matters has carried out an oversight visit to Development Centers in Onicha Local Government Area, exposing poor performance in some centers.
During the visit to Onicha Development Center, Committee Chairman Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam expressed disappointment over the failure of Coordinator Hon. Onu Christopher Emmanuel to initiate meaningful projects that impact the people since his appointment. He also criticized the coordinator for sidelining key stakeholders, particularly the management committee members, and directed him to prioritize both human and infrastructural development.
At Ezeukwa Development Center, the committee observed a similar lack of progress, lamenting the scarcity of projects despite the purpose of development centers being to bring governance closer to rural communities.
However, the visit to Ukaba Development Center painted a different picture. The committee commended Coordinator Hon. Chika Nwangele Asaa for his achievements, including renovating the development center, grading and lateriting roads, and drilling boreholes.
The situation worsened at Onicha West Development Center, where the coordinator was absent from duty. The committee viewed this as incompetence and disrespect, directing him to appear before the Assembly for questioning.
At Oshiri Development Center, Hon. Obinna Mbam acknowledged ongoing projects and expressed satisfaction with the progress.
Responding, Hon. Chika Nwangele Asaa of Ukaba Development Center thanked the committee for recognizing his efforts and pledged to sustain the developmental momentum inspired by Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
