Ebonyi Lawmakers Inspect Projects, Call for Transparency in Ohaukwu DCs

As part of its commitment to ensuring accountability in grassroots governance, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy, and EBSIEC Matters has extended its oversight visit to the eight development centers in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

 

Chairman of the Committee and member representing Izzi East Constituency, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam, stated that the visit aimed to promote probity, transparency, and accountability in the administration of development centers. He urged those yet to be visited to prepare for the committee’s assessment, which will focus on their signature projects and key challenges.

 

During the visit to Effium South Development Center, the committee expressed disappointment over the lack of impactful projects and programs. The Coordinator, Hon. Ogalagu Moses, was advised to prioritize both human and infrastructural development to improve the well-being of residents.

 

At Ohaukwu Development Center, the lawmakers frowned upon the unclean environment and the absence of staff at their duty posts. However, they commended the Coordinator, Hon. Ejike Agbo, for initiating the renovation of the Development Center secretariat.

 

The committee acknowledged notable projects at Ngbo West Development Center, where the Coordinator, Hon. Samuel Ikor Onwe, highlighted efforts in erosion control, secretariat renovation, solar light installation, road construction, and the establishment of a bus stop.

 

At Ngbo Central Development Center, the committee applauded the Coordinator, Hon. Mrs. Adagba Blessing Ogba, for fostering good relationships with stakeholders and management. They noted that this approach has enabled the execution of meaningful projects that positively impact the people.

 

In Effium Development Center, the lawmakers inspected the construction of Nwofe Nkaleke Market, installation of solar lights, and peace maintenance efforts, all presented by the Coordinator, Hon. Ogbonna Nwogbaga.

 

At Ngbo East Development Center, the committee assessed the renovation of the administrative block, the completion of a modern office complex, and the payment of bursary awards.

 

At Ngbo North Development Center, the Coordinator, Hon. Prince Uche Achi Okpaga, showcased completed projects, including the construction of box culverts, bridges, an abattoir, and the installation of solar lights.

 

During their stop at Ohaukwu North Development Center, the lawmakers urged the Coordinator, Hon. Geoffrey Elebe, to intensify efforts toward initiating a major capital project in the center.

 

In response, Coordinators—including Hon. Samuel Ikor (Ngbo West), Hon. Ejike James Agbo (Ohaukwu DC), Hon. Isaac Alike Uchenna (Ngbo East), Hon. Prince Uche Achi Okpaga (Ngbo North), and Hon. Ogbonna Ogbaga (Effium Development Center)—commended the committee for its visit. They expressed gratitude for the engagement, noting that it has motivated them to work harder in delivering meaningful development to their respective communities.
