The Ishieke community in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has honored the local government chairman, Barr Chinedu Uburu, with the chieftaincy title “Afunwa Elo Nna of Ishieke” and his wife, Jessica Uburu, as “Ugwu Di ya nke Mbu.”

The title was conferred by the Ebonyi State Council of Traditional Rulers, represented by HRH Eze Iboza and HRH Eze Sunday Oketa, recognizing the chairman as a true son of the soil.

During the event, Chris Ucharji, the chairman of the occasion, commended Prince Uburu for achieving what past council chairmen struggled with in Ishieke Kingdom’s history. He highlighted the chairman’s contributions to the overall development of the community and Ebonyi LGA.

Also, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Chibueze Elom acknowledged Prince Uburu’s efforts in repositioning Ebonyi Local Government and requested support for human resource development in Egwudinagu ward to alleviate pressure on the chairman.

“As we the people of Egwudinagu ward honour you with a chieftaincy title today for your wonderful contribution to the development of the society, it was not without nostalgia of the wonderful contributions of your late father for the development of Egwudinagu, Ishieke Community and the lager society, we continuously pray for his gentle soul to rest in the boss of his maker.

“The award is not an invitation to rest an oak but a challenge to do more, bearing in mind that the reward of good job is more jobs.”

In response, Chairman Chinedu Uburu expressed gratitude for the prestigious title and announced plans to provide scholarships to indigent students in Ebonyi LGA. He also pledged to sponsor WAEC fees for 10 students from each ward, emphasizing the importance of supporting youth education.

Launching the Afun Wa Foundation dedicated to educational opportunities for indigent students, Chairman Uburu revealed his commitment to the community’s electrification.

Dignitaries at the occasion included the First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs Uzoamaka Nwifuru, local government chairmen, and various stakeholders in the community.
