Ebonyi LG Polls: Image of Governor Nwifuru, Party Chair now on trial

It is no longer news that the aspirants in the 2024 Local Government Area elections are no longer at ease over what they described as “APC Party’s failure to fulfil its promises”.

They recalled that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State had told them that stakeholders would decide who will take over the seat of power at the LGA level, during the 2024 elections.

According to them, the reverse became the case, when the Governor and the State Party Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha made a U-turn, after they must have spent N25m to purchase their forms for the 2024 Local Government elections.

According to them: “We are Party men and we are now suffering the pains of a change in the decision of the Governor in 2024. The Governor is a man of integrity, dignity and reputation and we believe in him.

“The issue is that we believed in the words of the Governor and went to buy our forms worth N25m. If he had told us that an aspirant from our various LGAs had been chosen for the Chairmanship position, we wouldn’t have gone to spend millions of naira for no reason.

“Some of us have been going through serious hardship after we were assured by the Governor that our stakeholders will decide the dynamics of the elections. This matter should be addressed. We are appealing to the integrity and reputation of the Party.

“2025 Local Government election is around the corner and we are ready to work for the Party. Our concern should be raised and treated in the spirit of oneness and cooperation within the Party. We borrowed huge money from Banks to run the election based on what the Governor said.

“This is causing most of us certain level of impoverishment. The integrity of the Party is now being put to trial We believe in the Party and our Governor. Do you know that we are still paying the money we borrowed? The words of the Governor is a law and we making passionate appeal for the Party to look into this matter that bothers on the integrity, loyalty and reputation of the Party.”
