Ebonyi man arrested for allegedly killing neighbour with shovel

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Ezeoke Chidera for the alleged murder of his neighbour, a 60-year-old woman identified as Mrs. Awoke Rose.

 

The incident occurred on Monday morning in Egugho, Ezzagu community, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

 

According to reports, the suspect allegedly attacked the elderly woman around 6:00 a.m., striking her multiple times with a shovel and leaving her in a pool of blood.

 

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ebonyi State Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, the suspect was promptly apprehended following a distress call to the police.

 

“On 02/06/2025 at about 0600hrs, we received a report that one Ezeoke Chidera, who lives in the same compound with Mrs. Awoke Rose, aged about 60 years, attacked her by hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood. Officers of the command were able to apprehend the suspect. The command is currently investigating to understand the motive of the brazen attack,” the statement read.

 

The body of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue, while investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
