Ebonyi: Police Confirm Attack on Commuter Buses by Suspected IPOB Members

The Police Command in Ebonyi has confirmed the attack on commuter buses, motorcycles by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Ebonyi State.

SpringNews gathered that in the early hours of Monday morning, armed men stormed the ever busy Ezzamgbo Junction in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State shooting sporadically in the air dispersing passerby, after which commuter buses, motorcycles were burnt to ashes.

Confirming the development, SP Onome Onovewakpoyeya, Police Public Relations Officer in the State,disclosed that the perpetrators set ablaze three commuter buses, four motorcycles, and one tricycle.

Commutter buses

Onovwakpoyeya confirmed that no lives was lost during the incident, revealed that police had swung into action to arrest perpetrators of the attack.

Stating, “today 02/10/2023, Armed men suspected to be IPOB/ESN members in a Sienna car attacked commuter buses, tricycle and motorcycles at Ezzangbo junction .
“They burnt down 3 commuter buses, 4 motorcycles and 1 tricycle. No life was lost.
“Operatives of the Command have been dispatched to the scene and it environs to fish out the perpetrators.” She stated.

This attack is coming barely 3 weeks the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, had declared an end to the sit-at-home order enforced by the Indigenous People of Biafra across the South-East states.

Recall in August 2021, IPOB commenced the sit-at-home order to demand the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, from prison.

And since then, members of the proscribed group enforced the sit-at-home order on citizens in the South Eastern region of Nigeria.
