The 2023 Edition of the Ngboejeogu Unity Cup Competition has Commenced with the kick – off performed by the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Rt Hon Chief Moses Ije Odunwa.
At the ceremony held at the Ngbo Central School , Rt Hon Moses Ije Odunwa said that apart from harnessing youths of the area in the sporting sector , the competition will create an avenue for recreation and social cohesion as talents will be discovered and groomed from the event which may then become the means of livelihood to some families in the nearest future.
He Commended the organizer and sponsor of the competition, the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Comrade Chinedu Ogba Onah for his foresight in adequately engaging the youths in his area in meaningful enterprises and for bringing social amenities to his Constituency.
In a welcome remark, the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon Comrade. Chinedu Onah said that the competition is part of the various measures adopted by his Foundation- the Ojichiaga Foundation and the request from the youths in the area to put smiles on their faces and to harness talents.
Rt. Hon Onah disclosed that other programmes embarked upon by his Foundation- include Scholarship awards to undergraduates which saw 84 students benefitting during his first term in office, visits to widows in the hinterlands for the distribution of palliatives, Poverty Allievation to indigents, widows and the less privileged.
The Deputy Speaker thanked the whole members of the state House of Assembly for coming in their numbers and other dignitaries that attended the function.
In an address presented by the Director General of Ojichiaga Foundation, Mr. Kenneth Odanwu, he maintained that the Foundation is geared towards ensuring overall wellbeing and development of the communities adding that sporting activities play an important role in shaping the character of the youths, instill discipline, create spirit of teamwork and resilience.
In their different Goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Capital City Development, Chief Sunday Inyima thanked the sponsor of the event and implored the competing teams to imbibe good spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Also, the Vice Chancellor of Coal City University in Enugu, Prof. Afam Ituma said the competition will bring out oneness and good relationship in Ohaukwu, while the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Comrade Oguozor Offia Nwali said that apart from bringing oneness among the people of Ngbo, it will also create togetherness between the youths of the area.
The competition which will run till the first week of 2024 has 10 participating teams drawn from the 10 communities in Ngboejeogu clan.
The event was attended by State Executive members, local government Chairmen, Captain of Industries, Clergymen and other distinguished personalities in the society.
