Ebonyi state Legislators Demand Improved Training for Health Students

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Health has extended it’s oversight function and familarization visit to the Ebonyi State College of Science and Technology Ngbo where the Committee mandated the school management to ensure full accreditation of it’s courses for thier graduates to be integrated into the National Youth Service Scheme.

Speaking, the Chairman of the committee and member representing Ohaukwu North Constituency in the State House of Assembly Hon Mrs Esther Chidiebere Agwu highlighted the importance of proper training of the Health Students so as to have a robust and sound Healthcare delivery system in Ebonyi State.

She maintained that the visit was to familiarize with the management of the Institution as a way of knowing thier areas of needs, how to partner for more success and the level of thier achievements in making the school to produce viable graduates.

Another member of the Committee and Deputy Leader of the House Hon Joseph Ununu commended the management of the institution for the neatness of the school and hailed the provost for putting in place viable programmes and activities in the college that even make a success.

Others who spoke include, Hon Barr Aloysius Nwodo representing Ebonyi North West, Hon Chikezie Igu representing Ohaozara East , Hon Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West, Hon Stephen Orji-Igwe representing Edda East and Hon Friday Ogbuewu representing Ezza South all implored the management of the Institution to furnish the committee with the school curriculum.

Responding, the Provost of Ebonyi State College of Health Science and Technology Ngbo, Chief Stephen Nwankpuma, told the committee that the institution runs the Environmental Health, Community Health and Health Information Management but lamented lack of school bus, non availability of power transformer, encroachment of the Institution’s land and insufficient hostel accommodation.

While thanking the committee, the Provost agreed with the committee that the full accreditation of it’s courses in the college will step up admission ratio of the school.

The Committee equally visited the Ebonyi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency where the chairman Hon Mrs Esther Agwu, told the Executive Secretary the paramount importance the State government placed on the primary healthcare delivery to the people and charged them to be alive to the responsibilities bestowed on them.

Contributing, Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam, Hon Godwin Abiri and Hon Chikezie Igu all highlighted the importance of health to humans as they say ” health is Wealth’ .

Responding, the Executive Secretary Ebonyi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Emeka Ovuoba chronicled the activities of the agency adding that the agency gets supports from the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, UNICEF and other partners.

He however implored the Committee to make the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to see reasons behind putting the Primary Healthcare under one roof.
