Ebonyi TUC Re-elects Comrade Igboji, Others for Second Term

Executives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ebonyi State Council, have been re-elected for a second term in office.

The re-election took place on Thursday during the delegate congress of the union held in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The motion for the re-election of the executives was moved by Charles Nwali of the Association of Senior Civil Servants and seconded by Nwanneka Chukwuba, a member of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN).

The election was witnessed by government officials and leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.

Those re-elected include Comrade Chidi Igboji, Chairman; Nwanneka Chukwuba, Vice Chairman; Nwogbodo Vincent, Secretary; Aja Kelechi, Treasurer; and Nwaji Sunday, Financial Secretary, among others.

In his acceptance speech, the re-elected Chairman, Comrade Igboji, thanked members for the confidence reposed in the team and assured that his leadership would continue to prioritize workers’ welfare in the state.

He stated that the state council would duly communicate the outcome of the election to the national body and expressed optimism that both the state and national leadership would continue to work harmoniously for the progress of the union.

“This is the state council, not the national council. We are at the grassroots level, and I believe they will accept our decision here at the state level. You journalists monitored everything we did here — both the State Administrative Council (SAC) and State Executive Council (SEC) were present. It was the collective decision of members and affiliate unions that led to our re-election,” he said.

Former Chairman of the NLC in Ebonyi State, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor, who also monitored the exercise, commended the members of the union for their unity of purpose, which, he noted, contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election.
