EBSU Alumni Association Inaugurates Committees to address Issues in Varsity

In a proactive move to address pressing concerns regarding the well-being of both students and staff, the Ebonyi State University Alumni Association (EBSUAA) has inuagurated committees to oversee these efforts.

 

During the fifth homecoming event in Abakaliki, themed ‘Together, We Can Build a Stronger EBSU,’ the National President of EBSUAA, Dr. Kenneth Ereke, expressed deep concern over the exploitation and victimization students often endure while seeking their certificates or transcripts.

 

He equally expressed dissatisfaction with the delay on the committee’s report on the tragic case of the law student who lost her life in a tragic accident due to victimization. He therefore called for transparency and accountability in the case, and assured that through the establishment of committees, the association would see to the end of the issue and equally resolve other complex issues.

 

Dr. Ereke emphasized the urgent need to set up committees dedicated to overseeing students affairs, highlighting the pivotal role student welfare plays in their academic success and their commitment to supporting the alma mater after graduation.

The established committees include; Committee on Alumni Relations: chaired by Dr. John Nwankwo, with Pastor Williams Chukwu serving as Secretary. Committee on Records and Documentation led by Chris Usulor, with Anayo Nwiya as Secretary.

 

Also Committee on Students Welfare, under the leadership of the National Vice President of the association, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwakpa, Committee on Business and Finance, chaired by Dr. Hiliary Nwele, with Dr. Friday Nwkede as Secretary and Committee on Contact and Mobilization.

Dr. Kenneth charged these committees to work diligently for the transformation of the institution.

He stated, “While we have made progress, we must strive for excellence. I encourage these committees to brainstorm and introduce innovative ideas to bring positive change to our university. I implore you to ensure that the university starts feeling the impact of the alumni association between now and December.”

 

Expressing gratitude to the school’s management for addressing the backlog of salary payments, Dr. Kenneth also commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru for his magnanimity in allocating 700 million naira to the university, which facilitated the clearance of salary arrears.

 

Adding “The increase in subvention is commendable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to him for appointing many of our members to key positions within his administration. We hold high hopes that these appointees will bring honor to him and to all of us. I, therefore, urge everyone to provide unwavering support, as his success is our success,”he stated.
