EBSU VC to Alumni: ‘Defend Our Legacy’

The Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Prof. Chigozie Ogbu has urged the newly inaugurated executive officers of the EBSU Alumni Association (EBSUAA) to stand as defenders of their alma mater.

Speaking at the inauguration event in Abakaliki, Prof. Ogbu encouraged the alumni leaders to use their roles to drive positive change within the university and uphold its image.

He said, “We are happy that you’ve accepted that position to serve, I’m charging you to make sure that your leadership period will bring new changes in all Alma mater.

“There have been a lot of misgivings about people who don’t understand what is happening in your Alma mater, and they go out to say all sorts of things.

Prof. Ogbu however urged the new Excos to endeavor to defend the institution’s interest in crisis situation, stressing on the importance of truth and clarity in addressing misconceptions about the institution.

Adding, “But when they run down your institution, they also run you down. So your position as leadership of the Alumni is very important,” VC Ogbu said.

The former National President Dr. Kenneth Ereke also advised the association to support the new executives and focus on constructive engagement.

The new National President EBSUAA, Chief Sunday Nwangele, in his acceptance speech, appreciated the VC EBSU, Governing Council, and staffs for the enviable ranking standard the university has attained. He assured that his regime will sustain and improve on legacies of his predecessor.
