The Senator representing Ebonyi Central in the National Assembly, Senator Kenneth Eze, has defended the removal of fuel subsidies, stating that the decision was crucial to ensuring that both state and federal governments have the necessary funds to operate.

Speaking at the constituency briefing, held at his country home in Onueke, Ezza South LGA of Ebonyi State, Sen. Eze acknowledged the severe economic hardship that has followed the removal of the subsidy but insisted that it was an unavoidable measure to prevent the government from running out of resources.

“If not for the removal of the fuel subsidy, the state would not have the money to run the government,” he noted.

He explained that the economic problems Nigeria is facing did not begin with the current APC administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but have been building up over several years.

“It is true there is hardship in Nigeria. Be patient; with time, things will get better. We feel your pain,” he reassured.

During the briefing, Sen. Eze distributed over 1000 bags of fertilizer to farmers across his constituency, with 220 bags allocated to Ezza North, 220 to Ezza South, 400 to Ikwo, and 320 to Ishielu.

He also announced a financial allocation of 10 million naira for various constituency projects, aimed at alleviating economic pressures on his constituents.

He outlined his legislative achievements, revealing that he has played a pivotal role in the passage of five significant bills in the National Assembly. He also co-sponsored several other important bills and was instrumental in ensuring that bills detrimental to his constituents’ interests were stopped.

Additionally, he shared that he has facilitated employment opportunities for fifty Ebonyians in the civil service as part of his ongoing efforts to combat unemployment in the state.

Sen. Eze also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the leadership of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, for fostering unity and adhering to the people’s charter of needs manifesto. “If not for his unity, we wouldn’t have a fair share from his magnanimity,” Sen. Eze remarked, crediting the Governor’s leadership with creating a stable environment that allows leaders like himself to serve their people effectively.
