The people of Effium in Effium Autonomous Community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has accused the Ezza-Effium resident in the community of breaching the ceasefire agreement signed by Effium and Ezza-Effium on Thursday 10th August 2023.
The ceasefire agreement was signed at the Bishop Court at Pastoral Center Mile 50, Abakaliki under the supervision of the Chairman of the peace committee, Bishop Michael Nnachi Okoro amongst others.
According to a Facebook page post by Edene Chinatu, a Gospel Activist captioned , ” Ceasefire Agreement : Today 8/9/2023, let the whole world know that Ezzas have refused to abide by the agreement of the ceasefire as they attacked Okporo village injuring many in a renewed attack.
“This unprovoked attack on Effium is coming after the ceasefire agreement was signed in the presence of a government representative and after the visit of the committee set up by H. E. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State to see that peace is restored to the community.
“However, Ezzas has broken the peace accord, and that brings our point home, that Ezza cannot co-exist with Effium again because it is not feasible as Effium is now an endangered tribe in Ebonyi State.
“It is now clear that this one is among many other things that pose as proof that Ezzas never wanted to be part of Effium but desired to annex Effium’s land into Ezza Onueke”, he concluded.
Meanwhile, a community leader, who gave his name as Ojo Michael further disclosed that Effium people were attacked attacked while on their farm at Okporo village during which the victim was shot on the tie.
They were in the farm working when the Ezza warlord attacked and open fire on the people of Effium at Okporo village. When the Ezza warlords sighted them on their farm, they stated firing at them.
The Ezza people have broken the ceasefire agreement. In the process of firing at my people, one of them, Osondu Ejem was shot and badly wounded”, Ojo stated.
