The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs. Mary Maudlin Nwifuru has enjoined the women of the state to take advantage of this year’s August meeting to re-dedicate themselves to God and rejuvenate their noble responsibilities as agents of peace and social development in our society.
Chief Mrs. Nwifuru gave the advice during the 2023 August meeting of Ikwo Women at Onuebonyi Echara, the headquarters of Ikwo Local Government Area.
The Wife of the Governor represented by the former Chairman, Ohaukwu Local Government Council, Dr. Chinyere Elom while calling on Women to respect their husbands, emphasized the need for the women to continue to embrace peace and focus on issues that would bring immense benefit to the growth of the society as well as the upbringing of their children and wards as future leaders.
The Chairman of the Occasion and Wife of the former Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief. Mrs. Josephine Elechi urged the women to also use the period to take stock of their private and public engagements and consequently plan for the future in order to enhance their commitment towards the promotion of the core values of love, tolerance, peace, National integration and development.
The Chairperson, Ikwo Local Government Council, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwankwo while commending the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for giving Ebonyi Women pride a of place in his administration, charged women to stand up to be counted in waging war against gender based violence, indiscipline and immorality.
The Council Chairperson appreciated the mother of the State, Chief Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru for her efforts towards women emancipation in the society, assuring that her programmes will be stepped down to the rural areas.
The Wife of the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mrs. Florence Odunwa and the Mother to the Wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Ezinne Nwode called on Mothers to ensure proper upbringing of their children to save the society from social vices.
The Chairman, Ikwo Local Government Council, Mr. Sunday Nwankwo who enjoined the women to rise up to the challenge of the moment while emphasizing that the quality of every society is hinged on the quality of mothers existing therein. He added that given the interest shown during the lectures by the women, similar event would be organized by October to educate them more on societal values.
In their goodwill messages, the Wife of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs. Peace Odoh, the Traditional Ruler, Amagu Erimogwudu Kingdom, Eze Dominic Aloh and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, Dr. Tina Igberi said the event was a veritable platform for self re-examination and therefore called on parents to pay more attention to the educational needs of the girl-child.
The event which had its theme as “Mother where is your child”, featured lectures on contemporary issues, News and Drama presentation as well as empowerment of the women.
