Enugu Collapsed Bridge: Governor Mbah and Governor Umahi Lead Inspection as Urgent Reconstruction Work Begins

“Federal Government Announces Immediate Reconstruction Plans for Collapsed Enugu Bridge

The Federal Government has confirmed its commitment to initiate the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge at New Artisan along the Enugu Port Harcourt dual carriageway. The initial step involves implementing palliative measures on the standing bridge, starting with one lane, to make it usable within the next 10 days.

Governor of Enugu State, Barr Peter Mbah, and the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, conveyed this decision during a joint visit to the site on Wednesday to assess the situation before the commencement of reconstruction.

Governor Mbah expressed appreciation to the Minister and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their swift response to alleviate the difficulties faced by road users due to the collapsed bridge. He conveyed the Minister’s assurance that repair work on the existing lane would commence on Friday, with the expectation that one lane would be operational within the next 10 days. The comprehensive reconstruction of both lanes is set to begin around the middle of the following month.

The Minister of Works, Umahi, praised Governor Mbah as a productive and focused leader who applied pressure to address the challenge promptly. He acknowledged the governor’s commitment to the well-being of the people and commended his resilience in the face of distractions.

Umahi revealed that palliative work on the standing bridge would start immediately, and the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge would be funded through the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Act. He thanked the President for releasing funds to begin the rebuilding of the two bridges and a flyover near the Pipeline Products Marketing Company (PPMC) depot at Emene.

Commending the governor for prioritizing service to the people over partisan politics, Umahi emphasized the importance of strong leadership. He outlined plans for a flyover at the Eke Emene depot and expressed support for the governor’s initiative to build the Enugu-Abakaliki Road.

In conclusion, Umahi acknowledged the governor’s persistence in ensuring that promised work commenced and affirmed the joint effort to reinforce the standing bridge on one lane within the next 10 days for immediate use by the public.”
