A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Barrister Silas Onu, has officially resigned his membership of the party.

Onu, who was the PDP Senatorial candidate in the February 4, 2024 bye-election for Ebonyi South Zone, announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the newly adopted platform of the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter dated Wednesday and addressed to his Obiozara Ward Chairman — a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Thursday — Onu urged his supporters to join him in the ADC for what he described as a more stable and promising political future.

According to him, interference by a few sitting governors in the affairs of the PDP led to his decision to leave the party.

The letter reads in part:

“It’s with a heavy heart, yet for a more patriotic reason, that I resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

“As a member of the PDP, I did my best to entrench the party in our ward and was privileged to serve as State Publicity Secretary before rising to the highest leadership position as State Chairman in Ebonyi.

“I was also honoured to be elected as the party’s candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial bye-election in February 2024.

“However, this decision didn’t come easily. Due to irreconcilable differences — particularly the role played by a few sitting governors — I am compelled to pursue my political aspirations on a different, yet stable, platform.
