“Grief and Horror Unleashed: Female Student Shot Dead in Enugu School Attack by Suspected Fulani Herdsmen”
Heart-wrenching scenes unfolded late Thursday as a female student of St Paul’s College in Eke, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, fell victim to a brutal shooting by suspected kidnappers, believed to be Fulani herdsmen.
According to reliable sources gathered by SPRINGNEWS, the assailants targeted the students, with the unfortunate victim losing her life to the gunfire. Reports indicate that other students, also struck by bullets, are currently fighting for their lives in an undisclosed hospital.
DAILY POST received a distressing video depicting the lifeless body of the victim and survivors of the attack. A voice in the video recounted the chilling incident: “Fulani herdsmen attacked our students; they were going home after school. One of them was shot dead, four students were shot, one died instantly. They have done enough.”
The narrator continued, “See the corpse of the little student they have murdered. This one is unconscious; we are praying that God will sustain her; she sustained four bullet wounds. This was done by the Fulanis operating at Eke-Egede Road. These are the ones that survived; the government should come to our rescue. Our place is now a death zone.”
SPRINGNEWS also reached out to the school’s Principal, Rev. Fr. Frank, who confirmed the attack. He stated, “It is true; we dismissed by 3:30 pm yesterday. As the students were going home, the bus they were in was attacked by gunmen; some of them received bullet wounds, of which one later died in the hospital. That was between 4:30-5 pm; the gunmen just opened fire on them. We feel so saddened to lose such a promising young girl in this circumstance.”
Meanwhile, community sources revealed that the area has long been plagued by kidnappers, particularly the marauding Fulani herdsmen. A community leader, speaking anonymously, expressed frustration with the security agencies’ inability to curb the activities of these criminals. He highlighted a notorious forest called ‘Ofia-akwu,’ spanning about 15 kilometers, as a recurring hotspot for kidnappings.
The source lamented, “The security agencies know that they have been occupying that location for several years now, committing all manner of crimes. We don’t know why it is difficult to flush them out from that location. Many lives have been lost to their murderous activities on that Eke-Egede Road.”
In a distressing turn of events, a renowned traditional ruler was reportedly abducted by the same criminal gang following the attack on the school bus. The monarch from Affa was allegedly kidnapped along Eke-Egede-Affa Road after a security meeting.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, were underway at the time of filing this report, as he had requested a text message for a formal statement.
