Fatal Incident in Aba as Goods-Laden Container Crushes Commuters in Tragic Accident

Waterside area of Ogbo Hill in Aba, Abia State, witnessed a heartbreaking incident on Tuesday morning when a trailer carrying a container of goods toppled onto tricycles and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The unfortunate accident resulted in the death of an unidentified passenger inside a Keke NAPEP, while a trapped couple in the SUV awaited rescue from the heavy container as a crowd of sympathizers gathered.

The exact cause of the morning tragedy remains uncertain, but some residents and transporters claimed that the trailer, descending from the Waterside bridge, was moving at a high speed when the accident occurred.

Bus driver Magnus Ozor recounted the horrifying scene, stating that the truck driver lost control while maneuvering the busy road, causing the heavy container to fall onto unsuspecting road users. Ozor mentioned that some passengers managed to escape unharmed, while others were unfortunate, getting trapped beneath the container.

Ozor highlighted that this incident occurred about two years after a similar event in the same area of Enyimba city. He noted that long vehicles were banned from plying the Ogbo Hill road during the day by the previous administration.

Residents of Ogbo Hill, using their bare hands, attempted to lift the fallen container in a manual effort to save the lives of those trapped, as concerned agencies were not immediately on the scene.
