In a press briefing on Thursday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command showcased 39 individuals arrested for various crimes within the nation’s capital. The arrests were a result of the Joint Task Force of Operation, recently initiated by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, as highlighted by FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna G. Garba.
CP Garba informed the press that eight of the apprehended suspects were part of the notorious ‘one chance’ syndicate, known for causing disruptions in the territory. He attributed the decrease in cases of “one chance,” armed robbery, and abduction to the effective implementation of the task force, operational for the past two weeks.
During the course of the operation, 54 vehicles were impounded, and law enforcement seized locally fabricated guns, as well as a locally made Beretta pistol from other suspects. CP Garba detailed the recovery of two locally fabricated guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, and a revolver double barrel gun with two live cartridges.
The CP also disclosed the confiscation of three full bags of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, along with numerous wraps of Indian hemp and illicit drugs. Expressing satisfaction with the results, CP Garba stated, “I am happy to inform you that the incidence of one chance, armed robbery, and abduction have reduced significantly in the last two weeks in the FCT since the launch of the operation.”
