Flood destroys farms worth millions in Ikwo

A devastating flood has swept through parts of Ikwo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, destroying rice crops and other farmlands worth millions of naira. The affected areas include Ekpomaka and Ndiegu Amagu, among others, leaving local farmers in distress.

This destructive event follows just a week after a national warning urged residents in flood-prone areas across affected states to evacuate. Despite the advisory, the rapid rise of floodwaters has caught many off guard.

Farmers in the region, particularly those who planted rice, have taken to social media to express their anguish over the loss of their crops. One distraught farmer shared their plea online, stating, “Good evening my beloved brethren, Kindly remember me in your prayers. I am in the village currently and heavy flood has destroyed our farms.”

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but the livelihoods of many agricultural families in Ikwo LGA have been severely impacted by this natural disaster. Local authorities and aid organizations are yet to release details on potential relief efforts for the affected communities at the time of filing this report.
