A tragic incident occurred in Unity Estate, Aregbe, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, where a middle-aged electrician was electrocuted on Tuesday while assisting his neighbor in fixing an electrical fault.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, SP Omolola Odutola, stated that an official statement regarding the incident would be issued soon.
Reports indicate that a resident named Elijah from Unity Estate in the Aregbe area of Obantoko, Odeda local government area of Ogun State, had enlisted the services of an electrician to rectify an electrical fault.
It is worth noting that there was a power outage at the time when the electrician began working on the issue. However, tragedy struck when power was suddenly restored while he was in the midst of his task.
According to a community source, panic ensued among residents, causing some to flee the scene. The incident was subsequently reported to the Aregbe Police Station.
The source provided further details, saying, “The electrician had been engaged to assist in repairing an electrical fault at Mr. Elijah’s house. He had been the go-to person for fixing faults when IBEDC personnel were unavailable. There was no electricity before he commenced the repair. However, power was unexpectedly restored while he was working, resulting in his electrocution. Initially, those present fled the scene, but later, Mr. Elijah reported the incident at Aregbe Police Station, with the support of members from the Community Development Association.”
