The Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma has commended the representatives of Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) for the establishment of Situation Room where activities of general hospitals across the State would be monitored from the Ministry.
He gave the commendation during inauguration of the facility in the Ministry’s headquarters at Ochudo Centenary city, Abakaliki.
Dr. Ekuma who noted that the facility has made the work less arduous as they could see and interact with health workers from the situation room, emphasized that it would help them get accurate data for budget preparation so as to provide quality healthcare to the people.
He revealed that the State Governor, His Excellency, Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has put an end to lack of manpower through the recent employment of health professionals and called for training of the staff on how to use the equipment.
The Health boss promised to support them whenever the need arises
Speaking earlier, the Director of Public Health, Dr. Hyacinth Ebenyi and the State Aid Programme Coordinator, Mrs. Elizabeth Oko Owa lauded them for the good work they have been doing in the State especially the current project which they said would enable them view the hinterland from the Ministry and urged them not to relent in rendering efficient services to the State.
In their separate speeches, the Head of Clinical Services, Excellent Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), Dr. Okezie Onyedinachi, the Zonal Technical Lead ECEWS, Osibaku Onyekachukwu, the representative of FHI360, Chris Amalo and the representatives of other partners outlined the importance of the Situation Room and encouraged them to protect it adding that it enhances performance of workers as data is harvested the moment it is being entered.
“This helps to foster an environment of mutual accountability. Following Situation Room meeting, key decisions are communicated to appropriate operational unit and frontline workers in a timely manner”.
While they said that the Situation Room was powered by solar energy, they disclosed that it was funded by global fund to fight AIDs, tuberculosis and malaria through FHI360 and through the COVID 19 response mechanism from the National Agency for Control of Aids.
The Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. Charles Alike, the Director Pharmaceutical Services, Pharmacist Dr. Moses Okoro, the State Malaria Elimination Program Manager, Mr. Lawrence Nwankwo among others witnessed the event and it featured questions and answers.
