The Lagos State government recently carried out an enforcement operation aimed at dislodging street traders and dismantling illegal structures located on drainage setbacks in the Maryland area. Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the announcement on Monday through an official statement on his social media handle.
Wahab revealed that officers from the Lagos Environmental Corps conducted the operation in the vicinity of Mende Road, specifically around the SUBEB fence opposite the NEPA office in Maryland. The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to achieve a cleaner Lagos.
In his social media post, Wahab stated, “As instructed, the Special Operatives of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps @LAGESCOfficial/ KAI carried out a special enforcement operation today. The enforcement was to dislodge recalcitrant street traders and dismantle illegal structures on drainage setbacks which serve as wares depots at the perimeter fence of Mende Road by the SUBEB fence opposite the NEPA office, Maryland.”
This development follows the Lagos State Government’s recent notice to building owners within the seven-meter setback on Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, and Osapa along the Ikota River. The government had given them a one-week ultimatum to vacate the premises.”
