The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to women, children, and youth empowerment with the prestigious “Better Life Champion for Women, Children, and Youth Empowerment” award.
The award presented by the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), South East Zone, was given to Mrs. Nwifuru on September 26, 2025, at a special ceremony held at Re-Meritona Hotel, Abakaliki.

Receiving the award, Nwifuru commended NAWOJ for recognizing her efforts and pledged to remain steadfast in her mission in ensuring that women and youths in Ebonyi State are given platforms to achieve their full potential
Earlier during the presentation, the Zonal Vice President Comrade Amaka Agbo stated that the prestigious award recognizes Mrs Nwifuru’s outstanding commitment to improving the lives of women, children, and youths in Ebonyi State through her Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO).

Agbo noted that Nwifuru’s commitment to community development and engagement has made a significant impact in the region, and her legacy continues to inspire many.
“the award celebrates your dedication to promoting quality healthcare, supporting education, empowering rural women and youths, and consistently championing initiatives that uplift vulnerable groups.” she noted.
In her remark, NAWOJ South East BOT, Deaconess Veronica Osim praised Mrs. Nwifuru’s humanitarian work, particularly her support for widows and the most vulnerable through BERWO. The foundation has provided support to widows, including a recent housing project that has given 26 indigent widows across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State new homes
