Niger State Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago Establishes State Refugees Commission with N500 Million for IDPs

In a significant development, Niger State Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago has taken a proactive step to address the challenges faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state. During a symbolic presentation to 700 households who were beneficiaries of relief materials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and IDPs in Minna, Governor Bago announced the establishment of a State Refugees Commission with a substantial budget of N500 million.

This newly established State Refugees Commission will operate under the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. Governor Bago, while expressing concern over the substantial number of IDPs in the state, emphasized that this commission is dedicated to effectively addressing the difficulties faced by these displaced individuals.

Additionally, Governor Bago shared that the State Government is committed to providing further assistance to IDPs by distributing 13,000 bags of grains from its reserve. This initiative is aimed at alleviating the hardships experienced by the IDPs in Niger State.

The governor reassured the public that the State Government remains dedicated to doing everything within its power to ease the suffering of IDPs. This proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by IDPs not only demonstrates the government’s commitment to humanitarian efforts but also signifies a positive step forward in providing crucial support to those in need.
