“Nigerian Army Reports Significant Victories: Neutralizes 113 Terrorists, Arrests 300 Suspects, and Rescues 91 Kidnap Victims in a Week

In a recent press briefing, Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced remarkable achievements by the Nigerian Army in its ongoing operations. Over the course of one week, the troops successfully neutralized 113 terrorists, apprehended 300 suspects, and rescued 91 kidnap victims.

Additionally, the security forces arrested 25 individuals suspected of involvement in oil theft, dismantled 49 illegal refining sites, and confiscated stolen products valued at N571 million. The operations also led to the recovery of 129 assorted weapons and 717 different types of ammunition.

Major General Buba emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Defence Headquarters to exerting military pressure on groups that threaten peace and security in the country. He stated, ‘There is no doubt that these groups must be defeated and are indeed being defeated.’ The military’s strategy involves targeting the leadership, infrastructure, and foot soldiers of terrorist, insurgent, and violent extremist groups.

Buba highlighted the unprecedented coordination between air and ground forces, resulting in significant achievements. He also mentioned the anticipation of new platforms that would further enhance the military’s capabilities to root out terrorists and destroy their military capabilities.

The breakdown of recovered items during the operations includes various firearms, ammunition, explosives, and other materials used by the criminal elements. The recovered items range from unserviceable AA guns and RPG tubes to locally fabricated rifles and hand grenades. Additionally, the security forces seized IED-making materials, boating radios, motorcycles, mobile phones, and a sum of N348,200.

The reported successes underscore the military’s determination to address security challenges and safeguard the well-being of the Nigerian people. The Defence Headquarters continues to prioritize coordinated efforts to tackle threats and maintain peace and stability in the country.”
