Nigeria’s Super Eagles Set for 2026 World Cup Qualifier Clash with Lesotho

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are poised to face Lesotho in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday evening. The anticipated match will unfold at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has already unveiled his 23-man squad for the showdown against Lesotho. The squad includes notable players such as Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City, Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, Alex Iwobi from Fulham, Frank Onyeka from Brentford, and Nottingham Forest stars Taiwo Awoniyi and Olaoluwa Aina.

However, the team will be without key players, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, and Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

Nigeria and Lesotho have a history of three encounters since 2007, all resulting in victories for the 2013 AFCON Champions. The Super Eagles are expected to maintain their winning streak as they host Leslie Notsi’s side.

Placed in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Nigeria will face additional challenges against Zimbabwe, Benin, South Africa, and Rwanda.

The Super Eagles head into the match following a 3-2 victory over Mozambique and a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia in their recent friendly games in October. Prior to these friendlies, the team, led by coach Peseiro since May 15, 2022, experienced eight losses and five wins.

Wakanda FC midfielder, Alpha Markus Sidi, shared his thoughts on the upcoming World Cup qualifier, expressing confidence in Peseiro’s squad despite the absence of key players. Sidi highlighted players to watch out for, including Awoniyi, Onyeka, Aina, and Lookman, emphasizing their recent performances and contributions.

In terms of prediction, Sidi expects a 2-0 victory in favor of the Super Eagles.

The kickoff time for the Nigeria vs Lesotho match is set for 5 pm.
