NNL: Abakaliki FC hit Uyo clash ranked third after win over Ekiti united

Abakaliki FC have travelled to Uyo for their midweek Nigeria National League (NNL) clash while sitting comfortably in third position on the Conference B table, following their hard-earned 1–0 victory over Ekiti United at home.

The victory, which added to their 2–0 win against Solution FC, marked the team’s second consecutive home triumph and further strengthened their growing confidence this season.

Chairman of the Abakaliki Supporters Club, Prince Morris Nnanna Mbam, said the team’s recent form is a clear sign that the vision behind establishing the club is beginning to unfold.

“You can see that the team is ready. What you saw is just a piece of what is coming,” he said after the Ekiti match. “We assure our supporters and Ebonyians that the reason His Excellency gave us this team will be proven in the nearest future. Our strikers are ready for the season.”

Prince Mbam praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for giving young footballers the platform to showcase their talent, adding that many of them could soon break into the professional league.

“My advice to the youth is this: concentrate. Whatever you know how to do, do it well. The result will be favourable for you,” he added.

Acting Head Coach, Star Plus, said the technical crew had a long week of preparation ahead of the Ekiti encounter and expressed satisfaction that the players executed their instructions despite early challenges.

“I feel excited. It wasn’t an easy thing to prepare for this game. We knew it was going to be tough. We told the boys we would win and win again,” he said. “Forget the difficulty we had in the first half; their commitment delivered the result.”

He noted that he is pushing the players through increased technical drills to improve the team’s performance across all departments, adding that he is strengthened by the experience he has gained under his former boss.

Coach Star Plus emphasized that he is not desperate for a full contract, believing that the team’s performance will guide the club owners’ decision.

He thanked the supporters for their sustained backing and assured that the team would continue improving as the season progresses.

Abakaliki FC, now with seven points from four matches, are in Uyo to face Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, hoping to extend their impressive run and solidify their place among the top contenders in the conference.
