The Commissioner for Police, Ebonyi State Command Augustina Ogbodo has expressed readiness to partner with women journalists to tackle the menace of gender based violence in Ebonyi State.
CP Augustina shared this information in Abakaliki during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ebonyi Chapter, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
The Ebonyi Police Chief expressed her determination to tackle gender-based violence in the state and ensure that victims of such cases get justice.
She stated, “gender-based violence have always been a concern, I have supervised gender department and I know that Police are always eager to deliver justice in such cases.
” Our primary duty is to ensure the security of our people. Anyone facing issues related to women’s rights should not hesitate to inform the police promptly.
“If you feel that law enforcement isn’t handling it effectively, please let me know so we can address it. Under my leadership, justice will prevail.”
She reassured Ebonyi Women journalists of her commitment to collaborating with the media, saying, “We will work together, and I find it more comfortable working with women.
“We’ve had a friendly relationship with the media, and I’m pleased to know that there is a women’s group I can work closely with.”
Earlier, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, Ebonyi State Chapter, Comr. Nkechi Oginyi, highlighted NAWOJ’s humanitarian role in society and expressed appreciation for CP Augustina’s willingness to partner with female journalists.
She emphasized, “NAWOJ is primarily engaged in humanitarian work, and we appeal for a strong partnership. The issue of spousal battery is on the rise in Ebonyi.
“We urge that when cases of gender-based violence come to your attention, do not hesitate to inform us. “
