In a swift and decisive operation, the Jigawa State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued the victim unharmed, according to an official statement released by the command’s spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
The incident unfolded on the evening of September 17, 2023, at approximately 20:40hrs, when a group of armed hoodlums, wielding dangerous weapons, stormed Kwanar Garki village in the Babura Local Government Area. During the raid, they abducted Isyaku Umar from Kofar Arewa and shot Ahmad Abdullahi of Babbar Ruga village in the armpit.
Upon receiving the distress call, a team of dedicated police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer from the Babura Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to the scene. Their courageous and timely intervention led to the safe rescue of the kidnapped victim, who emerged unharmed.
Both the rescued victim and the injured Ahmad Abdullahi were promptly transported to Babura General Hospital for medical attention.
Shiisu further elaborated that the police in the Babura Division alerted their counterparts in the Ringim Division when they received information that the suspected kidnappers were fleeing towards the Ringim Area.
In a collaborative effort, a combined team of police officers and the Vigilante Group established a stop-and-search operation at Daushe village along the Ringim Kanya Babba highway. Faced with this determined police presence, the criminals abandoned their getaway vehicle, a Vectra with registration number NEN 20 NZ from Anambra State, and fled into the surrounding hills.
The abandoned vehicle yielded a significant cache of evidence, including one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 15 live rounds of ammunition, and an Android handset.
This successful intervention by the Jigawa State Police Command serves as a testament to their commitment to maintaining the safety and security of the region.
