President Bola Tinubu has officially ended the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, declaring that it will expire at midnight tonight, September 17, 2025.
In his address, President Tinubu stated that his initial proclamation on March 18 was necessary to “arrest the drift towards anarchy” caused by a “total paralysis of governance.” He highlighted the conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration and the State House of Assembly, which had led to a constitutional impasse and brought governance to a standstill.
President Tinubu noted that his intervention was crucial to restore public order and safety. He thanked the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and the people of Rivers State for their support.
With the end of the emergency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are set to resume their duties from tomorrow, September 18, 2025.
