Chief Sunday Nwangele has been elected as the new National President of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Alumni Association after a successful and peaceful election held in Abakaliki.

The election, overseen by the 2024 National Electoral Committee Chairman, Nwankwo Chukwuma Theophilus, saw all candidates running unopposed.

Speaking to the press, Nwangele, the outgoing National Secretary, pledged to build on the achievements of the previous administration.

He emphasized fostering unity and continuity, stating, “I want to stand on the achievements they have made and ensure that my co-executives and I take the association to greater heights.”

He assured the alumni that the new administration would focus on launching more projects and maintaining harmony within the executive.

“There will be peace among the executives. We will remember the past executives in the Board of Trustees, and we will make sure to carry everyone along.

“Their advice is crucial, and we will always hold meetings to hear from them, which will benefit us by guiding our actions,” he said.

According to the EBSU Alumni constitution, all elected positions are renewable for another four-year term, giving the new leadership the opportunity to serve a second term if re-elected.

Similarly, the outgoing National President, Dr. Kenneth Ifeanyi Ereke, advised the new leadership to engage the university management with diplomacy, maintain unity within the team, and prioritize the interests of the university and its students.

“They must approach the management diplomatically and resolve issues with the interests of the university and students at heart.

“Unity is key because there may be individuals pursuing personal interests within the executive, but if they can work together as a team, they will succeed. By God’s grace, we have selected capable leaders who can collaborate effectively.”

Dr. Ereke also reflected on his administration’s key achievements, including the construction of a medical center and the renovation of the EBSU Alumni Hall.

However, he acknowledged challenges such as financial constraints and a lack of cooperation among some members.

The newly elected executive members include Eni Ikechukwu Idam as Vice President, Ani Nancy Ifeoma as 2nd Vice President, Dr. Chima Kenneth Ifeanyi as National Treasurer, Okoro Nnachi Uneke as National Secretary, and Pastor Chukwu Onyeabor Williams as Assistant National Secretary.

For the National Women Mobilization Officer, Elder Mrs. Ogui Victoria was elected, with Okah Chineye Martha serving as the Assistant Women Mobilization Officer.

Other elected officials include Ogbonna Sunday as Financial Secretary, Ikegwu Eric Chijindu as National Auditor, Flora Ogbonnaya Irem as Assistant Director of Social Affairs, Atukpa Emeka Izekwe as Publicity Secretary, Dr. Nnabu Bernard Eze as Organizing Secretary, and Dr. Etu-Odo Chidebere Fedelia as National Legal Adviser.
