The Chairperson of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ebonyi State,Hon. Mrs. Nwogbala Mercy has condemned the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of inflicting unprecedented hardship on Nigerians.
Speaking to the press shortly after the inauguration of YPP’s local government chairmen, she described the current leadership as disconnected from the harsh realities faced by ordinary citizens.
“Before Tinubu came into office, things were relatively stable. Now, fuel prices have soared to over a thousand naira, and basic necessities are beyond reach for many. This administration has done more harm than good, and the people are suffering,” she said.
Nwogbala criticized the government’s over-reliance on inaccessible online schemes. “Everything is online – empowerment, loans – yet nothing is reaching the people who need it. The system is failing us,” she added.
She argued that Nigeria’s challenges demand youthful and dynamic leaders who understand the struggles of ordinary Nigerians. “A young, vibrant leader would know how to manage Nigeria better. An old man cannot hear the cries of the people. Even if you write pages of newspaper complaints, he won’t read them because he doesn’t have the time or strength,” she said.
Nwogbala also used the platform to canvass for increased women participation in politics, highlighting the progress YPP is making in that regard. “Of the 13 local government chairmen inaugurated today, seven are women. This is just the beginning. Women have the potential to manage the affairs of this country, just as we do in our homes. If given the opportunity, women will bring order and development to Nigeria,” she emphasized.
She called for deliberate efforts to empower women in politics through orientation and seminars, stressing that their inclusion is crucial for national transformation.
Nwogbala urged Nigerians to embrace YPP as a solution to the nation’s woes, assuring supporters that the party is poised to bring real transformation. “YPP is the right platform to bring change to this country. We are not against the current government, but we know if we have the opportunity, we would do better,” she said.
She expressed confidence in YPP’s future in Ebonyi State. “We are building our structures and empowering our local government chairmen to drive our vision. Come 2027, YPP will take over Ebonyi State,” she declared.
Earlier, Nwogbala inaugurated chairmen representing the 13 local government areas in the state, giving them the mandate to drive YPP’s vision to the grassroots.
