Tragedy in Lagos as Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Dangote Worker

Joseph Ameh, a staff member of Dangote Refinery, met a tragic end after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos on Thursday.

According to reports from City Round, the unfortunate incident occurred as Ameh was walking along Golf Bustop on the Lekki Epe Expressway. The driver, yet to be identified, collided with Ameh and promptly fled the scene, eluding attempts by onlookers to apprehend them.

A witness recounted the incident, stating, “It happened about 7 pm last night that one guy was just walking on the pedestrian side of the road near Golf Bustop when suddenly a speeding private vehicle ran into him. When the driver looked from his car and saw that the accident appeared fatal and that the man didn’t move at all on the ground, he quickly turned his vehicle around and sped off. Unfortunately, no one was able to chase him because he was at top speed.”

Upon the arrival of the police from Elemero Police Station to clear the body, Ameh was identified as a Dangote Cement staff member. Joseph Ameh was only 39 years old.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated, “The body was recovered bruised; however, it has been removed from the road and deposited at the Epe General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.”

The police have initiated an investigation, and the family of the deceased has been contacted through a phone found on Ameh’s body. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing driver responsible for the tragic hit-and-run.”
