Tragic Auto Crash Claims 12 Lives and Leaves 30 Injured in Plateau State

On Thursday, a devastating accident occurred in the Hawan-Kibo community of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the loss of twelve lives and leaving 30 individuals with varying degrees of injuries. The incident involved a truck loaded with bags of grains and passengers, descending a hill on a deteriorating road when it collided with a ditch in the afternoon.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the articulated vehicle, which was on its way out of Jos, crashed and spilled its contents into the ditch, leading to the immediate loss of several lives.

Mr. Godwin Alphonsus, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau State, confirmed the tragic accident in Jos on Thursday evening. According to the sector commander, the crash was a lone incident involving a trailer carrying both bags of grains and human passengers. The trailer experienced a brake failure and collided into a ditch while ascending a hill.

Describing the details, Alphonsus stated, ‘It was a lone crash. The trailer was carrying bags of grains and human beings. It had a brake failure and crashed into a ditch while ascending a hill. The accident happened in the afternoon on Thursday.'”
