USAID Nigeria recently conducted a 3-day workshop aimed at strengthening tax capacity in Ebonyi State.
The initiative, part of the USAID State2State program, focused on enhancing the skills of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Service staff in response to low tax income observations during an appraisal seminar in Abuja.
Mrs. Victoria Eze, representing the Ebonyi State Team Lead, emphasized that the workshop aimed to fortify financial management, reduce conflicts, and eliminate uncertainties in tax collection.
The program also addressed gender-based taxation and provided guidance on resolving grey areas in tax collection.
Mrs. Elekwa Comfort Omaka, on behalf of the Chairman of Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Services, commended the intervention program and expressed optimism that the workshop would improve tax collection with its experienced managers and resource persons.
The workshop covered various aspects of taxation, including taxpayer registration, service charter, and ICT importance.
Dr. Abimbola Abdur-rahman Lekki, the consultant and resource person, stressed the need for tax collectors to treat taxpayers as stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
Some of the participants in attendance, such as Mr. Amaechi Igwe and Mrs. Ogbuinya Obiageri Immaculate, expressed gratitude for the knowledge gained, foreseeing its positive impact on revenue collection in the state.
Earlier, the Public Relations Specialist of USAID Nigeria State2State,Mr. Chibueze Nwonye welcomed participants to the workshop.
