The Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Maryann Nkwegu, has urged young people to shun social vices and embrace responsible conduct as they mark Valentine’s Day.
In a Valentine message made available to journalists, Nkwegu stressed that the celebration should not be reduced to unhealthy competition or reckless behaviour.
She noted that the day is meant to promote love, kindness, mutual respect, and meaningful relationships built on positive values.
According to her, youths should celebrate with dignity, prioritize their safety and well-being, and resist peer pressure that could lead to regrettable decisions.
She encouraged young people to focus on responsible expressions of love that uplift rather than endanger their future.
Nkwegu also called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to play active roles in guiding young people toward positive choices, emphasizing that genuine love is demonstrated through respect, care, and responsible actions.
Reaffirming her commitment to sustained advocacy against gender-based violence under the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the Governor’s aide urged stakeholders to collaborate in building a safer and more responsible society where young people can thrive.
